MSN Munky Chat: August 8, 2002

Digital Dish Diva says: Welcome to MSN Live. Tonight we are pleased to welcome Munky from Korn to MSN Live for the first time.

Digital Dish Diva says: Hey, Munky, it's great to have you here!

Digital Dish Diva says: Welcome!

Digital Dish Diva says: So many questions so let's get started!

Korn says: Hello, everybody in Rock World.

KoRnPixie in Onstage_1 asks: You guys have always gone out of your way to interact with your fans. I love how you like to call us "Kids.” How do you always seem to find new things to do for us? I love that.

Korn says: Basically we just put our heads together and think of new ideas to express ourselves. With the internet, we incorporate that into our band and how we promote for our fans.

dark-fallen-angel in Onstage_1 asks: What was your goal when you made "Untouchables"?

Korn says: Our goal was to take new direction on the creative side.

Korn says: Something fresh and new.

Oni2005 in Onstage_1 asks: Who writes the music? Does Jon start off, then the others finish or vice-versa or different with each song?

Korn says: Basically our songs are written with guitar and drums. It's usually a combination of Munky, Head, and David. 75% of it is written that way.

KoRn_Addikt in Onstage_1 asks: How hard was "Untouchables" to record and produce compared to the other albums?

Korn says: On a personal level it was difficult for everybody. It caused a little bit of a writing block. It was difficult.

bassplayer666 in Onstage_1 asks: How come you guys didn't use any bagpipes in the new album? I have always loved the bagpipes on all the other albums.

Korn says: I think Jonathan wanted to give it a rest on one record.

KoRn_E_White_Girl in Onstage_1 asks: Does it bother you that boy bands are getting the publicity and money even though they don't play instruments or even write their own stuff?

Korn says: It's something that is annoying and our band has earned longevity because of how hard we do work.

AngryKid161 in Onstage_1 asks: I saw you guys a few years ago at the summer sanitarium tour. I'm going to see you in Phoenix on August 1 (my birthday). What do you think is the best concert you have ever played?

Korn says: I would definitely have to say Woodstock ‘99.

Phazenin in Onstage_1 asks: Hello! Us KornKamp members had a great time visiting with David, Munky and Head last night. We are now wondering when we can anticipate Jon and Fieldy?

Korn says: You know, with the tour schedule, it differs every day. So hopefully it will be soon and we'll all be able to chat with people on our website more frequently.

Kid_Fn_Rock_420 in Onstage_1 asks: The first time I saw “Blind” live it blew me away. How do you keep up the intensity in the music during a set?

Korn says: Generally we'll go off the adrenaline off each other and the audience.

KoRnThErApY in Onstage_1 asks: When you go onstage what is the main thing that is going through your mind at the time?

Korn says: Don't F up. (laughs)

evilbunnyofdoom in Onstage_1 asks: What does Jonathan prefer to be called? Jonathan? Jon?

Korn says: He prefers Jonathan.

lovemymeow in Onstage_1 asks: Are you guys enjoying the tour traveling and all?

Korn says: Absolutely. We always have fun touring.

the_morbid_angel_86 in Onstage_1 asks: Hey guys I’m about to go see you on Friday I was wondering what you think of the mosh pits?

Korn says: However anybody wants to come to our show and express themselves and have fun. If that's what they want to do and have fun doing it, then do it. Just don't throw anything at us on stage. (laughs)

edbig98 in Onstage_1 asks: Any weird moments onstage?

Korn says: If one of the other band members loses their place in the song and doesn't know where they're at, they can put the other members in an awkward position.

wickedfreak_77 in Onstage_1 asks: What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment as a band?

Korn says: Recording 5 albums.

Korn says: As the same group, under the same members.

kornfreak180 in Onstage_1 asks: How did ya'll come up with the video for "Thoughtless"?

Korn says: Obviously it's self explanatory, it's a kid that gets picked on and retaliates at the end. It's a pretty common thing in schools these days. It's the very message that drove Jonathan to write lyrics and record. It's the very same ideas.

PhleaBoy in Onstage_1 asks: What’s your favorite video you have worked on or been in?

Korn says: We did a video called "A.D.I.D.A.S." and it was one of my favorites. It didn't get much air play. We were in a car accident and had to play dead. So all we had to do was lay there on the ground. I was fun.

drumking6 in Onstage_1 asks: You guys ever gonna put together one of those greatest hit albums like of your top songs?

Korn says: Not at this time.

matt212476 in Onstage_1 asks: What band do you like to play with the most?

Korn says: The Deftones. We haven't done a tour with them in a long time. We would love to tour with them, but I think they are recording right now.

Lara13366 in Onstage_1 asks: Your band is always creating new ways to interact with fans, such as the live webcast show you held. Do you have any other things like that coming up?

Korn says: Not any major events like what we did at the Hammerstein Ballroom, but every few days we'll post video of scenes in like the dressing room. There's some pretty funny stuff up right now on the site.

chaotic-bEETCH in Onstage_1 asks: You can hear someone walk out during recording a song (something with the title "Daddy" in it) - what happened?

Korn says: That's Jonathan walking out of the vocal booth and the doors creaking and he's emotionally drained at that point.

hippychick25 in Onstage_1 asks: Describe your new album in one word.

Korn says: Dynamic.

angellust666 in Onstage_1 asks: Do you ever sit back and think that you can't believe you are in a band, that you have came so far when I’m sure you felt like you almost never would?

Korn says: At least once a day.

Master_of_Puppets15 in Onstage_1 asks: What distortion pedals do Head and Munky use?

Korn says: Right now I'm using the distortion off my guitar amp. It's a Mesa Boogie.

fabian_bob in Onstage_1 asks: On your very first record at the very end there is a taped argument who is it?

Korn says: (laughs) Our first producer named Ross Robinson, grew up in a small town called Barstow and he found this cassette of an argument in an abandoned house. We thought it was really funny so we had to put it on the record.

matt212476 in Onstage_1 asks: What do you think of your new figurines?

Korn says: We love them. Originally when they came up with the idea we said no, but then the right artist came along and now we all really like them.

brook_13_1999 in Onstage_1 asks: On your 3rd album "Follow the leader" Munky, Head, and Fieldy are messing around on the last track 25, the hidden track. What was up with that? It was funny.

Korn says: That was two of our friends, really drunk talking to one another. (laughs)

•İŋşłλ√єđ°Ģøđđєگگ• in Onstage_1 asks: What does the band think of the impact they have on teens today?

Korn says: Really I think Korn's message through the years is to bring awareness of child abuse and how that can affect people and if we can bring a little bit of awareness and shine some light on those issues it can give people a better chance at a happier life.

ViridityWizard in Onstage_1 asks: What metal band most inspired you all the most?

Korn says: I think most recently it's been a band called Mr. Bungle.

WildestAngelic in Onstage_1 asks: What do you guys think of your KORN KAMP members?

Korn says: We appreciate them and feel they are dedicated and we try to do whatever we can to keep them involved. Without our fans, there's no band.

P4YtHeHoLLoWCoST in Onstage_1 asks: How did the leak affect you as a band?

Korn says: It lessened the impact of the first release date, which was a bit of a bummer but that's ok, the record is doing well.

CincySig061889 in Onstage_1 asks: I was at the Indianapolis show on July 11th. ABSOLUTELY FREAKING ROCKED! You have great energy onstage! Do you have your set posted on the net anywhere?

Korn says: I'm sure it's on there somewhere, if any of our fans are taking notes.

Digital Dish Diva says: I know we need to wrap up since you have a show tonight in Oklahoma City. Thanks for joining your fans from around the world tonight.

Korn says: Thank you all for supporting our band and believing in what we do and supporting our creative direction.
