Brian Welch was born in Torrance, California, on June 19th, 1970. Brian and Munky went to the same school where Brian showed Munky how to play a few songs. They were friends up through high school, and had a friendly sort of competition with each other. Brian would go to Munky's house and jam. If Munky would learn some new material, Brian would be like, "d*mn I got to practice!". Later, Munky joined LAPD, while Brian would just sit around drinking their beer. LAPD decided that they needed a second guitar for when they toured, so Brian went on tour with them. Brian and Munky have been playing together for more than two thirds of their lives.

When asked how he got the nickname "Head", Brian said: "...Because I got a big head... Go get me any hat, and it won't fit." Head's favorite beers are Budweiser and Coors.

Jonathan on the now the infamous KoRn tattoo given to Head by Fred Durst: "He told us he’d been tattooing for years, but it turned out it was like his third tattoo! He did a KORN tattoo on Head’s back—and it looked like HORN."

What Head said he listened to and played when he grew up: "I listened to AC/DC, Motley Crue, and sh*t like that, but I liked everything. I’d watch MTV and want to learn a Tom Petty solo or a Cars riff. All those videos my friends hated, I’d dig, ‘cause I wanted to do the solos. I never bought the record because I’d get laughed at, but I’d learn the solo."

Brian "Head" Welch had  first wanted to be a drummer like Tommy Lee, but changed his mind when his father told him that a guitar would be easier to carry around.

Queen’s "Another One Bites the Dust" was the song that made Brian realize that he liked the guitar better than the drums.

Head plays guitar with his back hunched over, because he can't reach the top strings of his 7-string. He says he gets a back ache every night from it :(.

Head brought Rebekkah Ricketts (then his girlfriend) on tour with him. "It’s hard, you know, being gone on tour all the time and having a relationship. She has a
hard time sometimes. This year I’ve seen her a lot. She came out to Europe for ten days, so that’s good. We go with it. It’s just gets hard sometimes."

Brian's wife is Rebekkah, who recently gave birth to their daughter Jennea Marie, on July 6, 1998. As a result of the birth, KoRn had to drop out of the 1998 OzzFest in Europe. Brian would not travel overseas and be away from his wife at such a crucial time, and the rest of KoRn were set in the fact that they would not use any replacement musicians in any situation if one of them couldn't be on hand due to an extenuating circumstance.
